Super Maddie is the hat-trick hero

Wednesday, October 21, 2009, 07:00

Maddie Thomas hit another hat-trick as Bitton Under-15s came away from local rivals Longwell Green with a superb 3-2 win.

After the hosts had snatched an early advantage, Bitton rallied and Thomas smashed home an equaliser before putting Bitton in front after breaking clear from a congested midfield and steering her shot past the Longwell Green goalkeeper.

A neat move and finish gave the home team an equaliser before the break but Bitton had the final say when Thomas fastened on to a searching ball down the left and thumped a looping shot from outside the box into the top corner of the net to complete her second hat-trick in as many games.

Kelly Leat and Kelly Pymm both scored twice to help AEK Boco Under-15s to a 10-0 win over a hard-working Mangotsfield side.

Leigh-Ann Graham, Charlie Brankin, Dani Shiner (2), Amelia Ellery and Georgina Barlow completed an emphatic victory.

Frampton Rangers A Under-11s pipped their B team counterparts by a single goal in a fiercely competitive match.

Morgan Scantlebury produced a fine tip-over to prevent the A team taking the lead in the first half before Jess Jefferies scored the decisive goal midway through the second period.

Both teams hit a post during an exciting contest. Goalie Hariye Beydilli and defender Rosie Williams had great games for the A's and were made to work tirelessly by their opponents, as was Maddison Buss, Ellie Todd, Annie Lewis, Chloe Bragg, Chloe Fuller and matchwinner Jefferies.

Portishead Juniors Under-11s returned to form with a 2-1 victory over AEK Boco.

Midfielders Sophie Dumine and Alys Withers battled hard in the first half for Portishead, who still ended up 1-0 down at the interval, despite strong defensive performances from Rosie Collings, Eloise Hubbard, Phoebe Williams and keeper Aimee Morgan.

With Kyla Probert and Rhea Hall passing the ball well, Portishead pushed on in the second half and Emily Smith forced some great saves from Boco's excellent keeper until player-of-the-match Chelsea Hill scored two well-taken goals to clinch a deserved win.

Ashton Girls Under-11s battled all the way before bowing to a 4-1 defeat against Longwell Green. Goalkeeper Mairead Hayward produced some excellent saves for Ashton, while captain Maddison Church shone at the back.

Molly Carter was unlucky to hit the woodwork as Ashton tried to claw their way back.

The match between St Nicholas and Bristol Ladies Union – the two unbeaten teams in the Under-11 A Division – ended in 1-1 stalemate.

Saints opened the scoring with a well-worked goal in the first half, but Lizzie Burton replied early in the second period, bundling in a rebound after her own shot had been been well saved.

Both defences were strong, with Ellie Courtiour brave in goal for Blues, while the solid Aoife Smith, Adie Bailey- Douglas and Anna Hubble allowed Saints few clear opportunities.

Backwell Athletic Girls Under-11s maintained their 100 per cent record this season with their sixth straight win, a 4-0 victory against a Downend team a place below them in the league.

They kept the pressure on for the entire game and overcame strong and determined opponents with four second-half goals.

Two terrific Lauren Malone goals set Backwell on their way early in the second half and further strikes from Ellie Bray and Catriona Coates sealed a fantastic win, backed up by splendid performances from Sarah Page, Chloe Taylor, Imogen Fisher, Carys Hector, Hannah Simms and player-of-the-match Lizzie Johnstone.

Henbury Girls Under-12s returned to winning ways with a 4-1 win at Bristol Ladies Union.

Georgia Sandle took her season's goals tally to 12 with a hat-trick, with all three goals set up by player-of-the-match Amy Parker on the left wing.

Union hit back with a great strike, but Henbury restored their three-goal advantage with Cheyenne Lee's first goal of the season.

Bitton Girls Under-12s battled well to earn a deserved 1-1 draw against table-topping Ashton.

They fell behind 10 minutes from time but Emma Karon equalised from a superb Shelby Haynes corner.

Ashton still pushed for the win but Bitton's defence remained resolute.

Georgina Lacey's triple took her tally to 14 goals in three games as AEK Boco A Under-12s won 9-2 against Mendip Girls.

Lucy Atkinson also hit a hat-trick, while Makayla Steadman (2) and Vicky Foxwell completed the scoring.

Georgina Cousens fired five goals as Yate United came away from Southmead 10-0 winners.

Ellie Christophers (2), Sophie Kelly (2) and Emily Gibson also netted and it was only down to the brilliance of the Southmead keeper, whose team were reduced to just four players early in the second half, that the margin of defeat was not heavier .

AEK Boco Under-13s beat a courageous Ingleside team 6-0 thanks largely to strong defensive performances from Katie Jones, Georgia Powell and Cassidie Mills.

The trio gave the rest of the team confidence to focus on attack and they were rewarded with goals from Georgia Young, Lucie Henderson, Lauren Ford, Abi Britt and Ellie Marshalls, who scored her first two goals for the team in the second half.

Twins Leanne and Taylor Gainey were both on the scoresheet as Portishead Juniors Under-13s maintained their good form with a 4-0 victory at Longwell Green.

Both sides had chances in a goalless first half but Portishead's commanding captain Ellie Grey, and defensive partners Abbie Taylor, Lucy Rance and Shelbie Hale, gave strong protection to keeper Alice Pritchard.

At the other end, only some outstanding saves from the home keeper denied Charlotte Joyner and Annabelle Colston.

The second half was a different story, with Taylor Gainey (2), Annabelle Colston and Leanne Gainey all on target. Maisie Kincaid and Grace Arnall supported the attack well down each wing.
