Rovers keep it clean for a fourth game

Wednesday, October 28, 2009, 07:00

Under-14 Division I leaders Bristol Rovers SCJ made it four clean sheets in a row by beating Avon Athletic Colts 5-0 at Southey Avenue.

Ajani Smith latched on to a superb through-ball from Tom Booth to give them the lead on 24 minutes. In-form Jacob Miller made it 2-0 after a mistake in the Avon defence and Conor Davies put Rovers three up with a long-range effort.

In the second half, Daquon Henry finished off some good work from Rico Witter before Ben Hemmings wrapped up the scoring with a volley after a great ball from Harvey Chamberlain.

Man-of-the-match Mitchell Wise was immense at the back again for Rovers, who have now gone 280 minutes without conceding.

Oldland Abbotonians made it a second win in a fortnight against Broadwalk following their cup success by beating the Division II bottom side 5-2.

Connor O'Toole teed up Trevon Morne to net the opener and Morne scored again when Harry Crew flicked on a throw.

Broadwalk didn't give up and Oldland keeper John Fox produced two quality saves after a mix-up at the back. But the hosts went on to score three more times, with Morne completing his hat-trick before the break and adding another in the second period thanks to good work by Harry Church and Ross Liddington.

Broadwalk threatened a comeback by pulling two goals back to make it 4-2, but O'Toole put paid to their hopes with a superb fifth.

Under-strength Shire Colts just managed to take all three points with a dramatic 4-3 Division IV victory over Southmead CS at Stoke Lodge.

Dan Warren played in goal and produced an excellent performance, while Sam Khavandi and Harry Maggs performed intelligently, using the wind and Warren's long clearances to their advantage, as Shire built a 3-1 half-time lead.

Southmead dominated possession in the second half and hit back to level it up at 3-3. But Shire raised their game and Billy Richardson and Ben Mogg combined well to release George West for the winner.

In Division V, Lockleaze pipped Mangotsfield United A 2-1 in their top-of-the-table showdown.

All the goals came in the last 10 minutes. A great pass by Ronald Ngandu sent Mason O'Neil clear to open the scoring for Lockleaze before Dominik Dawes' cross was cleared only as far as Jordan Evans, who thundered a dipping 20-yard shot into the net for their second.

Mangotsfield's never-say-die attitude was rewarded with a last-minute goal through Britton, but it proved too little too late.

Curtis Mitchell, Josh Britt and Jordan Evans all went close for Lockleaze in the first half, while goalkeeper Rian Byrne produced some great saves and Kevin Agordorkin pulled off a goal-saving clearance to deny Mangotsfield an early lead.
