Rishi leads Stoke Bishop to Dave McCarthy Cup success

Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 07:00

Rishi Panchal starred with bat and ball as Stoke Bishop secured a narrow victory over Winterbourne A to claim the Dave McCarthy Under-11 Knockout Cup.

Panchal made 25 before retiring to help Stoke Bishop on their way to 88-5 after being put in to bat.

He then claimed two wickets as Winterbourne mounted a nail-biting chase, only to fall short by eight runs.

Daniel Nottage bowled superbly for Stoke Bishop as he took three wickets at a cost of just seven runs.

Winterbourne still have a chance to claim some silverware in the Ray Baker Under-11 League Championship, but will have to come through a tricky semi-final clash with Bristol, who beat Thornbury by eight wickets.

Bristol are also enjoying success in the Under-17 section after an eight-run victory over Bedminster booked their place in the final of the South West Glass Under-17 Knockout Cup. They will now meet either Gloucester City/Winget or Chipping Sodbury after their semi-final was rained off.

Bristol went into bat first and managed and scored 121-6. Bedminster replied with 113-7.

The victory offered Bristol revenge for their defeat at the hands of the same opponents just 24 hours earlier in the Under-17 League play-off.

Bristol were again first to bat but were blitzed by the bowling of Tom Pugsley. He claimed 4-7 off just four overs to help restrict Bristol to 91-7. Bedminster successfully chased down the target for the loss of just two wickets.

The Urban Windows Under-15 Knockout Cup final between Knowle and Winterbourne A will have to be replayed after proceedings were brought to a premature end at Frenchay on Sunday.

Knowle managed to complete their innings (92-5) before a torrential downpour meant the match had to be abandoned. The final has been re-arranged for this Sunday at Winterbourne CC.

Nailsea A are through to the semi-finals of the Les Hodge Under-13 League Championship. They skittled Lansdown for 50 before surpassing that target without losing a wicket.

They will also contest the final of the Frank Benner Knockout Cup after seeing off Twyford House in the semi-finals. Nailsea reached 153-2 and restricted Twyford House to 88-8.

Nailsea will meet Pucklechurch in the final after the South Gloucestershire side overcame Frenchay Red. Frenchay scored 83-8, but Pucklechurch won by two wickets in a tense finish.
