Two-year election plan is daft

This is Bristol

I have just learnt that a small majority of councillors voted against reforming the council election process in Bristol.

Instead of moving to a sensible process of voting for councillors every four years, we are going to continue with the ridiculous process of having elections every two years in some wards, in others an election for two successive years and then a gap of two years.

Every time there is an election, many council processes have to stop. For a defined period of time no interviews can be given to the press and a number of decisions are halted. With the need, continually, to keep favour with the public for the next election few unpopular decisions are made. With the to and fro of changes of power policy changes are made.

Is it any wonder we do not have an integrated, efficient public transport system in Bristol and are still sending refuse, expensively, to places such as Dorset? These are just two important issues that have been substantially impacted by this stupid election system.

I encourage all Bristolians who have councillors in their wards who voted this way, to vote them out at the next, all too soon, election.

Susan,

Crews Hole.
