Yate Town pay the price for goalkeeping mistakes

Yate Town 0 VT FC 3: Goalkeeping errors proved costly for Yate Town as they slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against top-of-the-table VTFC.

After their FA Cup defeat in midweek, Yate manager Dave Mogg made a couple of changes, with Sam Duggan and Kyle Shawcross losing their places to Marc Hughes and Gary Simmons.

VTFC opening the scoing in the final minute of the first half, when a long cross from Kevin Brewster led to indecision between the Yate defence and goalkeeper Lee Matthews, which allowed Mike Spenney to beat the goalkeeper with a header to give his side the lead.

Matthews' failure to cut out a cross into the goalmouth in the 56th minute then gave the visitors the chance to make it 2-0 as the dangerous Spinney netted his second.

Yate had a few chances to pull a goal back at the other end, but the visitors added a third goal in the closing minutes, when substitute Tyrone Bowers' low drive found its way past the unfortunate Matthews.
