This won't be easy, says Twyford House batsman
Mark Fowler is urging favourites Twyford House to be on their guard when they face Division Two Blagdon on Sunday at Cleeve in the Bristol & District Plate final (10.45am).
The Senior Division leaders are pushing for a league and cup double this season and – on form – should have no problem dispatching the Somerset side.
Blagdon should come up against two of their former players in Simon Byas and Paul Hudd, but another ex-Blagdon star Andy Nairn is not available.
But opening batsman Fowler said: "It's never easy. We have three of their ex-players at our club and that makes the match quite interesting.
"These players are looking forward to the match. Simon Byas was their captain for a couple of years, while Paul Hudd was their leading wicket-taker last year.
"We have a good relationship with Blagdon. They are a good 20-over side and they have some dangerous players. It should be a tough game but we are looking forward to getting stuck in."
Neither side have lifted the Plate trophy – Blagdon had not reached a semi-final of any competition before this summer.
But House have their sights set on the Senior Division title and a swift return to Bristol & North Somerset following last year's relegation.
They are battling it out with second-placed Pak Bristolians and Chew Magna with four league matches left and still have to face those two sides in the remaining matches.
But Fowler added: "This cup run has not been a distraction. When you are winning matches it breeds confidence.
"In the earlier rounds, we just tried to enjoy the matches. The nearer you get to the final the more you think about it.
"The league is the priority. This is a nice distraction for the club in general.
"We cannot wait for the final. We are looking forward to it. We had the semi-final victory a few weeks ago and we have tried not to think about the final.
"This is the first time Twyford House have been to a final. It is going to be exciting."
But Nairn, who is the fifth highest wicket-taker in the Bristol & District League, is not available.
Byas, who has missed the last two matches, returns from holiday in time for the final.
Fowler added: "We have good strength in depth. Simon is a big player for us. We still have Ross Sutton (also taken 30 wickets this summer). We have good bowling cover."
