Chippenham Tn 3 Corby Tn 0: Chippenham continued their rise up the table with an emphatic victory against their highly-fancied visitors from Northamptonshire.

Manager Adie Mings praised the excellent performance by his players as Chippenham took their chances to record their third win in a week.

The first half was largely a midfield battle, although Corby's Dean Brennan should have done better than fire over when clean through.

At the other end, Kevin Slack did well to get between his markers but, despite time and space, failed to hit the target.

Chippenham took the lead in first-half stoppage time when Dave Pratt scored from the penalty spot after Kevin Halliday had been fouled.

The Bluebirds doubled their lead two minutes into the second period when Kye Holly's low cross from the left evaded everyone to enter the net.

Corby substitute Steve Diggin then wasted several good chances before he pulled a goal back on 78 minutes with an angled drive.

Chippenham restored their two-goal cushion four minutes later when last defender Mark Warren tripped Pratt in the box. Skipper Warren surprisingly escaped a red card but Pratt made Corby pay as he was again successful from the spot.

Corby substitute Matt O'Halloran was not as fortunate as his captain, as he was red-carded on 83 minutes for showing dissent to the referee. The 10 men still managed to create two late efforts but both Jon Stevenson and Warren were off target.
