Former favourite McGregor strikes to increase Weston's woes

Worcester City 4 Weston-s-Mare 1: Former Weston favourite Marc McGregor contributed to his old club's downfall with a goal to set Worcester City on the way to a convincing victory at St George's Lane last night.

McGregor opened the scoring on 18 minutes with a far post header from a Rob Davies corner. Weston fell further behind just four minutes later through Craig Wilding's strike.

Weston showed character to try and return from that early double setback and on-loan striker Dave Gilroy was only denied a quick-fire brace by an eagle-eyed linesman who ruled both efforts out for offside.

Home striker Rob Elvins effectively ended the game as a contest when producing a clinical finish on 51 minutes.

Wayne Daniels rubbed salt into the wound with a fourth on 66 minutes before on-loan Torquay striker Ben Joyce grabbed a late consolation.

There was no lack of passion from either side and Bristol-based ref Mark Russell issued nine yellow cards in a bid to restore order in a match that had 36 free-kicks.
