Alsop header for Cheltenham sinks Weston-super-Mare

Weston-Super-Mare 1 Cheltenham Town 2

Former Bristol Rovers player Julian Alsop grabbed an injury-time winner as Cheltenham did about enough to overcome Weston in a pre-season friendly.

The visitors took the lead on 13 minutes through Elvis Hammond, who scored from close range at the second attempt after home keeper Kevin Sawyer blocked the first effort following Lee Ridley's cross.

Earlier Sawyer denied Hammond, deflecting a shot behind when the Cheltenham striker broke through.

Weston's best chance of the first half fell to Josh Llewellyn, who fired narrowly wide after rounding defender Michael Townsend.

Weston equalised on the hour when Darren Mullings was brought down by Townsend, and Marc McGregor scored from the penalty spot for his second goal in consecutive games.

After both sides made a raft of changes in a dull second-half, the decider came when Allsop beat Sawyer with a glancing header from six yards following a cross from Marley Watkins.
