Missing teenager could be in Bristol

Saturday, November 07, 2009, 07:00

Police believe a missing teenager may have come to Bristol.

Samantha Parnell, who is 15, has been missing from her home near Bridgwater since last Saturday OCT 31.

She was last seen that day at Brean Leisure Park, near Weston-super-Mare, at 9.45pm.

At 10pm on Monday, she is thought to have called police from a public pay phone at the junction of Victoria Street and Mitchell Lane in Bristol city centre but was gone by the time officers arrived.

They are now urging her to contact them again to let them know she is safe and well.

Samantha is white, of medium build and 5ft 3in tall, with very long dark brown hair with orange tips and a fringe.

She is believed to have been wearing either a long-sleeved top with lots of zips, black leggings and black heel boots, or a black, white and grey long dress. She was carrying a pink cloth shoulder bag.

Samantha has links to Frampton Cotterell and police believe she may have gone there.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts should contact police in Burnham on 0845 456 7000, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Weston-super-Mare

Weston comes from the Anglo-Saxon for the west tun or settlement. Weston's oldest structure is Worlebury camp, on Worlebury Hill, dating from the Iron Age.
Early in the 19th century, Weston-super-Mare was a small windswept village of about 30 houses behind the sand dunes which had been created as an early sea wall after the Bristol Channel floods of 1607.
Weston owes its growth and prosperity to the Victorian boom in seaside holidays. The first hotel was built in 1808 which is now the Royal Hotel.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his family lived in Weston for a number of months whilst he was supervising the construction of the Bristol and Exeter Railway.
The Grand Pier was opened in 1904 after local traders were unhappy that visitors were not coming as far as the centre of Weston-super-Mare. On July 28, 2008, the pavilion at the end of the Grand Pier was completely destroyed by a fire.
