We weren't good enough, admits Paulton Rovers boss
Paulton Rovers manager Andrew Jones has admitted that last season was hugely disappointing.
Failure to reach the Southern League South & West Division play-offs was compounded by losing to Toolstation League side Frome Town in the final of the Somerset Premier Cup.
"There can be no excuses," said Jones. "With the squad we had, we massively under-achieved and we are all fully aware of that.
"As I told everyone at our club's presentation evening, there can be no hiding behind any excuses at all. We were not good enough, but I believe there are reasons behind that and that is something we must address."
A fixture pile-up which stretched Jones' small squad to the limit was clearly a factor and injuries to key players under contract, which meant replacements couldn't be signed, also played a part. But Jones still appears to have the full backing of the club's board.
"They know we produce decent football on limited resources with average crowds," he said. "And the club have backed me and the players 100 per cent."
Steve Tovey, meanwhile, has decided to step down as assistant manager.
"Steve has given 27 years of non-stop service to Paulton as a player and coach and feels he needs a break from it," said Jones.
The club also need a new physio because Bob Stokes has retired." Anyone interested in either position should contact Jones on 07818 037950.
