Wolves hot-shot ready to face Bristol City
The big striker netted a superb hat-trick in Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Preston North End, only to be sent off following an apparent clash with Sean St Ledger.
By rights, the former Charlton marksman should now receive an automatic three-match ban, ruling him out of Saturday’s top-versus-fifth showdown at Molineux.
But Wolves have decided to appeal against Iwelumo’s ban after Preston defender St Ledger spoke out in defence of the striker.
St Ledger told referee Martin Atkinson there had been no contact and Iwelumo is now hoping the first red card of his career will be overturned.
Iwelumo said: “We’re looking forward to playing Bristol City and I’ve got full confidence I’ll be involved in that match. I’ll be buzzing if it gets rescinded.
“I was devastated, because I’ve never had a red card. I’ve only had about eight yellow cards in my whole career, it’s not in my nature.”
Welsh international goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey will definitely miss out on Saturday’s 12.30pm kick-off at Molineux after being shown a straight red card for a professional foul in the final minute at Deepdale. Carl Ikeme should step in.
