Swindon Town agree deal to keep Tudur Jones for rest of season

Swindon Town's battle to beat the drop has received a significant boost after a deal to keep Owain Tudur Jones until the end of the season was agreed.

The Swansea midfielder completed his initial one-month loan spell after Saturday's 0-0 draw with relegation rivals Crewe.

Town boss Danny Wilson confirmed that Wales international Tudur Jones will stay at the club for the remaining five games of the campaign, with the deal expected to be finalised before the trip to Brighton on Saturday.

He said: "We are close to sorting out a deal to keep Owain until the end of the season. It has all been agreed in principle and should be done this week.

"Owain has improved with every game and I have been more than happy with him. He is a quality footballer who offers us a great deal in that midfield area."

Tudur Jones has made six appearances for Swindon since making the temporary switch at the start of March, after falling down the pecking order at the Liberty Stadium.

"I want be at Swindon playing games rather than returning to Swansea to sit in the stands," Tudur Jones said.

"I am geared up for the remaining five games of the season, which are vital to this club. I'm looking forward to helping Swindon climb away from relegation trouble and relishing the challenges we face as a team over the next few weeks."

Tudur Jones' contribution, however, was not enough to break down a resolute Crewe rearguard as the battle to secure League One status for third successive season continued on Saturday.

"A point doesn't really get us anywhere but Crewe didn't make up any ground on us either," Wilson added.

"Every point is vital to us so we are satisfied with how things panned out. There are five games left and anything can happen now."

Meanwhile, star striker Simon Cox looks increasingly likely to become the subject of a summer scramble for his services after a number of clubs sent scouts to run the rule over him on Saturday. Aston Villa, Hull City, Manchester City, Middlesbrough, Celtic and Preston all sent representatives along to add to a growing list of admirers that already includes Bolton, Newcastle, West Brom, Tottenham and Fulham.
