We're leaders of the pack says Bath Rugby coach Meehan

Steve Meehan has praised his pack for their "incredible" scrummaging display in their Guinness Premiership victory over Wasps.

Bath overcame the second-half loss of skipper Michael Lipman to beat Wasps 22-14 at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday night.

And the foundation of their victory was their remarkable scrum, which dominated Wasps from start to finish.

Bath's only try, which was scored by Jonny Fa'amatuainu, came directly from a scrum, the Samoan diving over after Bath had driven Wasps back over their own line.

And head coach Meehan said: "I thought the scrum was absolutely incredible; absolutely dominant. It was what we built the victory on, there's no doubt about that.

"David Flatman was nice and fresh, Lee Mears came back for his first game for the club for a while, and I thought Duncan Bell was outstanding at tighthead.

"It was an area we had targeted – and the guys delivered. They executed it superbly.

"We followed that up with some hard yards in attack and some great defensive efforts at really important moments."

Victory took Bath level with Harlequins and Leicester at the top of the Premiership with three league matches to play – and Meehan's men face new pacesetters Quins at the Rec on Saturday.

"We've got an opportunity to finish in the top two – and that's what we should be aiming for now," said Meehan.

"We have two out of three games at home, which is an advantage, and Saturday's match now becomes the most important one.

"We've got to put as much gas back into the tank as we possibly can now, before we take on a side that had what sounded like a relatively easy night at the Stoop on Wednesday (Quins beat Worcester 60-14).

"I think Harlequins will come here in pretty good shape physically and with some confidence.

"But if we can play to our full potential, it's not unrealistic to suggest we could finish in the top two."
