Swindon bank on Betsy switch

Wednesday, August 06, 2008, 08:00

SWINDON TOWN chairman Andrew Fitton rates the club’s chances of landing Bristol City wideman Kevin Betsy before the end of the week as ‘better than evens’.

Swindon are understood to have agreed personal terms with Betsy, and are  waiting to see whether City will agree to compensate the player for accepting a lower-wage contract at the County Ground.

Betsy was a guest of the club at the County Ground for Monday night’s friendly with Plymouth, and Fitton rates the chances of the  deal being completed before Town open their league campaign agaisnt Tranmere on Saturday as  ‘60/40’.

He said “Things are progressing and I am more confident that it will get done than I was the other day.

“I have had a conversation with the Bristol City chief executive (Colin Sexstone) and we both know where the other is coming from.

“He is away in America at the moment, which is slightly holding things up, but I think there is a better than evens chance it will get done before Saturday.”

Betsy  has a year left to run on his City contract but Fitton added: “I think there is a willingness on all sides to do a deal.”
