1979: Muhammad Ali announced his retirement from boxing after 59 professional fights, nine months after regaining the world heavyweight title for the second time against Leon Spinks.

2004: Fifth seed Tim Henman won his Wimbledon third-round match 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 against Hicham Arazi of Morocco.

2005: Arsenal signed Belarus international Alexander Hleb from VfB Stuttgart.
