A former Salvation Army captain from Somerset has admitted stealing more than £33,000 from the charity, and from the estate of an Alzheimer's sufferer over whom she had power of attorney.

Heather Wallace pleaded guilty to four counts of theft at Bristol Crown Court between January 2003 and August 2005.

The ex-Salvation Army captain for Midsomer Norton, who now lives in Woodhorne Road, Ashington, Northumberland, stole £24,312 from the estate of her friend Kathleen Maggs, who lived in a care home in Midsomer Norton, between February 2004 and August 2005.

Wallace also stole £9,669 from the charity between January 2003 and March 2005.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on October 31.
