Man fined over drunken visit that ended in violence
Bristol Magistrates' Court heard that some of Mr Araminas' injuries , including a broken tooth, were caused by the metal bar wielded by the Timofejeves.
The 36-year-old defendant, originally from Latvia but who has lived in the UK for six years, was ordered to do 80 hours' unpaid community work, electronically tagged for four months and given a 7pm-to-5am nightly curfew. He was also told to pay £60 prosecution costs and £400 to Mr Araminas and £200 to Mr Berents in compensation.
May Li, prosecuting, said Timofejeves arrived drunk at the address in Wedmore Vale, where the two men lived at about 10.30pm. She said: "There were several heated arguments during the evening. Mr Berents and Mr Timofejeves began to have a play fight, and Mr Timofejeves began to get more aggressive."
She continued: "In the kitchen, Mr Timofejeves punched Mr Berents in the face, causing him to fall. He got back up and went to the stairs.
"Mr Timofejeves grabbed him by the back of the neck, again causing him to fall over. Mr Timofejeves began to kick him in the body while he lay on the floor."
Mr Berents ended up with a black eye and cuts and grazes to his body.
The court heard Mr Araminas then tried to help Mr Berents. But Timofejeves punched Mr Araminas, who went into a downstairs bedroom.
Timofejeves took a metal bar and broke a door panel, hitting Mr Araminas in the face and smashing a tooth.
Jane Taylor, defending, said: "The defendant was hitherto a man of good character.
"In his police interview he said he had consumed over a bottle of vodka and has a hazy recollection of the night."
She added: "He was not the only one being aggressive that evening, and he himself had sustained some injuries, though he can't tell the court how that happened.
"This was unintended injury, certainly not pre-meditated."
