A strange night at the pub
A medium working with the Phoenix in Wessex team independently picked up on the ghost of a young boy in a blue tunic previously seen by a housekeeper in one of the guest rooms.
And there were exciting results from an experiment carried out in the function room. A number of "trigger objects", in this case coins, were placed on a card and their positions marked. The room was then locked for three hours and, when reopened, it was found that some of the coins had moved.
"It was quite amazing," said Dave Wicheard, of the team. "It was only a couple of millimetres, only a slight movement, but enough to make you ask how they could have moved. We were astonished by that."
The 10-strong team split into groups around the inn. "In one room, three of us caught sight of someone sitting in a corner but when we looked round, the figure had gone," said Dave, who lives at Bradford-on-Avon.
"In another room, there were a lot of light anomalies when we were taking photographs, and in another we heard a sigh, a female voice, and couldn't determine where it came from."
The team plan to return to the George for another investigation later in the year on the anniversary of the numerous hangings nearby of men who took part in the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685. The executions were ordered by the notorious Judge Jeffries who held trials at the inn.
"I would recommend anyone to go to the George, spend the night, and see what happens," Dave added. Any takers?
