You're looking good at 100, bob
Celebrities such as Kate Moss, Katie Holmes and Gwyneth Paltrow have all swapped long locks for a shoulder-grazing cut.
Razor-sharp or mussed-up, there's a style to suit everyone, but if you really want to cause a stir, head back to the past for inspiration.
"The coolest bob shape at the moment is the 1920s bob," says Schwarzkopf Professional ambassador, Gemma Hensman.
"This can be adapted to be either strong, sharp and sleek, or a strong outer shape with a soft internal layering.
"It's the perfect cut for those who like short hair, but want to keep hair a little longer than a mid-length bob shape.
"Just above the shoulders like Gwyneth Paltrow is also still very stylish and trendy."
So, what's the best bob for your face shape?
SQUARE
Avoid bobs with strong angular lines because this accentuates the jawline, says Gemma: "I'd recommend a strong graduated bob shape that has soft layering and skims past the jawline to balance your face shape."
LONG
Women with a long face need to try to create width in order to prevent their face appearing even longer. "A fringe is a good idea in order to shorten the length of the face," says Gemma. "Choose a textured style with body as flat hair will also elongate the face."
ROUND
A mid-layered bob, with long side-fringes, works well for a round face, says Gemma. She adds: "Avoid a full fringe because this will accentuate the round shape of your face."
OVAL
Lucky you, says Gemma: "You have a very balanced face shape so any style will suit."
BOB MAINTENANCE
Use a shampoo best suited for your hair type – ask your hairdresser if you're not sure – as this can really affect the finish of your bob.
If your hair is very wet, remove some of the excess water with a medium heat on your hairdryer. Use a nozzle attachment to direct the heat to get a good result.
Section your hair off into smaller sections, using clips to divide up the hair, and dry each section in turn.
Use a paddle brush to create a smooth sleek bob, but if you want a shape that is full of volume and has root lift, you will get the best result from a round brush. They come in various sizes dependant on the length of your hair. "The most commonly used size for bobs is medium," says Gemma.
To achieve a sleek hairdo, once dry, apply a serum that holds stray hairs in place while creating instant shine.
