The Fallen Heroes pictured below represent the tragic human cost of the British Forces campaign in Afghanistan since October 2001 and the conflict in Iraq since March 2003.
Several servicemen from the Westcountry have given their lives in active service in Afghanistan. They include Royal Marine David Marsh, who died in March 2008. He was 23. Lieutenant John Thornton died in March, 2008, aged 22.
Among the soldiers killed in Iraq are Lieutenant Antony King, Lieutenant Commander Darren Chapman, Captain David Ian Dobson, Lieutenant Tom Mildinhall, Second Lieutenant Joanna Yorke Dyer, Private Eleanor Dlugosz and Royal Marine Paul Collins.
