Zach leaves Scrubs as Courteney joins

Some big changes are going to happen at Sacred Heart hospital.

Zach Braff, who plays JD, plans to say goodbye to the teaching hospital, where the hit medical comedy-drama Scrubs is set.

"This has been an amazing year," the 33-year-old told OK!

"I really thought this would be the last year. I would love to come back and visit and direct some episodes and do craft service if they need help."

Zach's departure will be a loss to the show, and marks the end of an era, but in its place Courteney Cox will be joining the cast. The former Friends star (she played Monica Geller) will play the chief of medicine and has signed on for three episodes.

"Everybody was psyched," Zach recalled of the cast's reaction when the news was announced.

"She's a TV comic legend and she's having a lot of fun. There's no hazing involved. We're nice to the new fancy people."

Scrubs producer Bill Lawrence says she made an impression with her cameo appearance.

"We'd have her back in a heartbeat. She's hilarious and a great actress," he recalled.

"She's a gamer, up for anything."
