Sugababes Brits boycott?

Monday, November 17, 2008, 13:30

The Sugababes are apparently threatening to boycott next year's Brit Awards if they don't get nominated.

The British girlband - who have got six No 1s, two Guinness World Records and sold 5.5 million albums in their ten years in the charts - are furious they have been invited to meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown but have still not been recognised at the Brits.

Keisha Buchanan, 24, told the Daily Mirror: "I say this in the most humble way but when you think of pop bands the Sugababes are definitely up there. I'm proud that Gordon Brown is recognising us, but why not the Brits? We're British for God's sake and we've done well.

"Surely we deserve an award after all the hard work we've done?"

Keisha has been in the band from the beginning and has now been joined by members Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, who share her feelings.

Amelle, 24, said: "I'm telling you, if they don't nominate us this year, that's it, I'm done. I'm not going.

"They should sack all those old men on the board and leave it to the fans to decide. They don't know what they are talking about.

"Our song About You Now sold almost as many singles as Rihanna's Umbrella - yet she was up on stage and we got no recognition."

The babes have nominated for a Brit Award six times and have only won one, Best Dance Act in 2003 - a category which no longer exists.
