The actor, who has played practical jokes on a host of stars in his series Punk'd - including Lindsay Lohan, Beyonce and Simon Cowell - had the tables turned on him by the cheeky stranger while he was out in London's Covent Garden, says the Daily Star.
Ashton was out with his wife Demi Moore when the man, posing as a tramp, begged him for cash.
The star reached into his pocket and pulled out a crisp tenner, and the joker screamed that he was being mugged, pointing to the note in the actor's hand.
The stranger returned to his laughing mates and shouted "you've been Punk'd" and a red-faced Ashton realised he had been duped.
