at the showground, Shepton Mallet

From  animals to action, education to entertainment, there’s a host of attractions for all the family at the 2009 Royal Bath and West Show.

French ornithologist Christian Moullec, who held the crowds spellbound in 2007, is back with his display of geese flying in formation behind his microlight. And the daredevil Cannonball man, Dave Smith, also returns to amaze the crowds with his stunts.

Show-goers can also try canoeing, scuba diving or an off-road adventure on the 4x4 course as well as enjoying a trip on the miniature railway.

The fashion show is returning this year with the latest collections from top brands.

Visitors can talk to the experts about
becoming more energy efficient in the
Eco-Zone or discover the world of
science, engineering and technology
at Imagineering. And of course there
are the animals with the event
boasting the largest pig show in the
UK, the country’s finest cattle, sheep,
goats and alpacas as well as poultry
and rabbits.

Don't miss your Western Daily Press for special
offers and the latest information on the event.

Design your dream Eco-home...

CHILDREN are being urged to design their dream Eco-home.

The Renewable Energy Foundation, which is running the Eco Advice Centre in the EcoZone at the Royal Bath and West Show in Shepton Mallet, is behind the competition.

It wants youngsters aged between seven and 11 from schools across the South West to use their imagination and creativity in the design of a building which can be located anywhere in the world.

Entrants are urged to consider energy efficiency, site location and building materials when creating their design.

Entries are already arriving and every child who enters will be invited to a reception and prize giving on the last day of the show on Saturday May 30 when TV presenter Noel Edmonds will present the winner with a bicycle.

Last night he said: “"What's really good about these pictures is that it shows that, like a lot of other things, common-sense begins at home. Here are a lot of sensible children thinking about conservation and sustainability in clear and practical ways, ways that make sense from everyone's perspective.

“Reduce our use of fossil fuels, yes, and make a contribution to reducing emissions, yes, but save mum and dad some money too."

Entries must be on a sheet provided by the REF, which is a registered charity, and these can be obtained by clicking the link below or contacting coordinator@ref.org.uk or 0207 930 3636. The competition deadline is May 1.
