Head of the River race brings 115 crews to Bristol

Around 400 rowers will be in action on Bristol's Harbourside on Sunday when the City of Bristol Rowing Club stages its annual Head of the River race.

The event, held over a 3,500-metre course from Totterdown Lock to Baltic Wharf has attracted 115 entries – the largest for a number of years.

The bost club will be competing against crews from across the south west, including the University of the West of England (UWE), Exeter, Bristol Ariel, Bradford-on-Avon, Avon County, Dart Totnes and Christchurch.

Racing will take place in two divisions, starting at 11.30am and 2.30pm, and includes eights, coxed and coxless fours, quads and sculls.

The top crews are aiming to beat the fastest ever time set on the course in 1997 by St Edwards School of 10 mins 5.86 seconds.
