Bristol City hot-shot Sam Baldock insists he and his team-mates will go into today's Bank Holiday clash at Millwall with renewed confidence after defeating fellow strugglers Peterborough United.

City out-gunned lowly Posh 4-2 at Ashton Gate on Saturday to win at home for the first time since August and move off the foot of the npower Championship table.

And top-scorer Baldock who netted twice to take his season's tally to nine, believes the manner of City's performance will stand them in good stead for what promises to be a testing encounter against Kenny Jackett's play-off-chasing Lions at the New Den today.

"We are well aware of how strong Millwall are, but I feel we can look forward to the next game with added confidence after Saturday," said the former MK Dons and West Ham United marksman.

"We all have inner confidence, but getting it out onto the pitch has been a problem. To finally win a home game in front of our fans after all this time was massive.

"The fans have had every right to voice their opinion and all we want is to send them home happy. We did that on Saturday and that gives us something to build on.

"Millwall are physically strong, they work very hard and get good support in the right areas, so we know it is going to be a really tough game.

"Millwall will be looking at us and thinking they have a great chance to take three points.

"But if we play the way we did against Peterborough, then we will give ourselves a good chance."

Although the Robins have recovered from a seven-match losing streak in October and November to take 11 points from their last eight games, Baldock reckons they need to do even better in 2013 if they are to achieve second tier safety.

He said: "We have always had an inner belief that we are good enough, but results sometimes go against you. We are well aware of the position we are in, but we are confident we can give take on any team in this league and get the three points.

"It's just a matter of proving it on a more consistent basis.

"We're in the bottom three and, if that is the situation in May, then it means relegation.

"We have to pull ourselves out of this situation and that means putting together a run of positive results. We've shown in glimpses how good we can be, but it's all about showing that more often and going on a run."

Baldock feels it is no coincidence that City have turned in improved performances against Ipswich and Peterborough since switching to a 3-5-2 formation.

Baldock added: "I think we've found a formation that suits us at the moment. We look a lot more solid and the goals are coming as well.

"I enjoy playing alongside Jon Stead, because he works so hard for the team. He constantly occupies defenders and I'm not sure Peterborough's players knew where we were.

"It means the likes of Paul Anderson and myself are able to come from deeper positions and that makes is more difficult for opponents to pick us up."
