Wells-based Tom Thick provided the winning catch of 69-8-0 in the Carps AC match fished on Bullock Farm's match lake.

The Thatchers Tackle salesman, fishing into open water at 16 metres centre off peg 18, weighed in 52-12-0 of carp and 16-12-0 of silverfish.

Bridge Peg 24 came up with a 47-0-0 second place for Gordon Canning, who long poled an 8mm hair-rigged pellet at 16 metres to point of island for carp, crucians, skimmers and roach.

Charlie Barnes took the heaviest silverfish catch at peg 25, where caster poled both central and into the lakeside margins tempted 22-4-0 of crucians and hybrids.

Phil Groves cruised to a comfortable 131-0-0 win in the Carpenters Arms 2,000 AC match at Staunton Court Fisheries, near Gloucester.

He poled paste into the lakeside margins of peg two and, despite suffering a first-hour blank, still managed to bring 14 carp to 14-8-0 to the scales.

Former Avon Angling team captain Martin McMahon came second at peg 13 where an 8mm banded pellet poled shallow at 14 metres into open water tempted 87-3-0 of mostly carp.

Phil Terry was third with a similarly taken 78-2-0 of carp to 9-0-0 from the lakeside margins of peg nine, while Rex Davies finished sixth overall with a 34-13-0 catch that included a winning 30-10-0 of silverfish.

John Garner doubled the weight of his nearest challenger and was the only one of 38 contestants to hit the 100lb mark in the Ridgeway & District AS Charity Match fished at Tockenham Reservoir.
