Rail campaigners are urging Bristol councillors to invest in more evening train services.

They say the Severn Beach line has seen a dramatic increase in the number of passengers since trains began running more frequently.

They campaigned last night outside the Council House to see more trains operating in the evenings on the branch line between Avonmouth and Bristol Temple Meads.

Pressure group Friends of Suburban Bristol Railways says the extra income generated from the rising number of passengers has prompted the city council to reduce its annual subsidy by £200,000. But FOSBR would like to see this money "ring-fenced" and spent to provide more evening trains, including to Bedminster and Parson Street stations.
