I think it's time for Bristol Rovers fans to start planning summer holidays

It was a frustrating day at the office and easy for people to blame the referee who made some puzzling decisions, but the truth of the matter was that we did not deserve to beat Peterborough.

The setback meant we have now taken only one point from our last three home games, hardly the sort of form needed to push for a play-off place which now seems a step too far, and I think we can start planning our summer holidays.

If Stuart Campbell was fit I am puzzled as to why the man who has been an inspirational captain all season could not find a place in this starting line-up ahead of Chris Lines or Jeff Hughes.

Lines and Hughes are similar players in that they are not ball-winners and I don't think we have room for both of them against sides at the top of the league like Peterborough who are all physically stronger than us.

Our visitors' style was similar to the way we had seen Leicester, Leeds and MK Dons play. They are not necessarily better footballing sides than Rovers but they work hard, take no prisoners, and close people down very quickly.

The mid-table position we find ourselves in is a good reflection of our season.

We are much better than the sides at the bottom of the league but have not beaten any of the top five.

It will soon be time to start building for next season and I don't just mean the stadium redevelopment.

If we are to challenge for promotion next year then we have to follow the example of these top sides and get more strength into the midfield. Someone in the Ronnie Maugue mould would fit the bill.

As the results have proved our style is more suited to away games and on Saturday Darryl Duffy and Rickie Lambert only had scraps to feed off for most of the game against the massed ranks of the Posh defence.

Our line up has worked well away from home but we lack width down the left in home games to break down visiting defences.

Maybe we could have had a penalty when a Lambert header struck a post, then a defender's arm.

We've seen them given, but as the play swiftly moved to the other end, the ref definitely "bottled it" when he then denied the visitors a spot kick.

On the plus side from Saturday, Joe Jacobson made a solid return to the side, Byron Anthony had another good game at the heart of the defence while David Pipe worked tirelessly up and down the right flank.

It was disappointing that we did not go three up front earlier, and why did it take so long to bring Jo Kuffour on? I hope all three strikers start next Saturday against Stockport, after all, what have we got to lose?
