The changing face of education in Bristol
Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 07:00
These fascinating pictures chart the evolution of schooling in Bristol over the decades. Most of them come from The Red Maids' School in Westbury-on Trym, which is celebrating its 375th anniversary. The school was founded by John Whitson in 1634. We also show an old picture of a Founder's Day procession at QEH school, which was founded by John Carr. Red Maids' launched its year of celebrations with a party and fireworks at the start of term. Other activities planned include a reunion tea party, Founder's Day, a science conference led by famous old girl Dr Alice Roberts, a fashion show, a musical and a gala ball. The school is also hoping it might receive a visit from a member of the Royal Family.
