Taunton Town made to pay for missing opportunities

Monday, October 05, 2009, 07:00

Bracknell Town 2 Taunton Town 1: Taunton Town paid the penalty for missing a hatful of chances as they went down to bottom side Bracknell in Division One South and West of the Zamaretto Southern League.

Taunton boss Paul West said afterwards he could not fault his side's workrate, insisting it was "fantastic."

But he added: "We simply couldn't score. We must have missed 10 clear-cut chances. Players don't try not to score. It's just one of those things."

Bracknell, without a point this season, won the game with a twice-taken penalty in the 83rd minute.

Dan Pepperell, who signed for Taunton earlier in the day, brought down Zac Gill. Paulo Cicero's first effort was saved by Lloyd Irish, but the ball was placed back on the spot and this time he beat the Taunton goalkeeper.

Earlier, Garry Sargeant put Bracknell ahead after five minutes but Sean Anthony equalised in the 25th minute.
