I can't take the letter seriously!

How is anyone supposed to take seriously Eddie Smith's letter ("Any damage done to our climate was done long ago", Post, December 8)?

In attempting to debunk human-caused climate change, he is of the view that the world's climate scientists either don't understand or have forgotten Archimedes' Principle for goodness sake!

It's not hard to find many such examples – the nature and enormity of the problem is causing many people to search around for reasons not to believe it and to wait for someone else to act rather than take their share of personal responsibility.

We see angry outright denial, scapegoat seeking, deliberate boasts about wastefulness, projection of anxiety onto something more manageable or, most common of all, people shutting out all information and just not thinking about the problem.

People are being helped to find reasons not to believe by very poor leadership from politicians who for decades have talked a lot, done nothing and now failed in Copenhagen.

They've also been helped by the poor state of communication between scientists, politicians and the public.

However, none of this changes the basic bio-physical facts.

Climate change is an inconvenient truth and we all have to face up to it. We've gone beyond the stage of fundamental dispute about the core science and entered a phase of finding out what it takes for us all to accept both the truth of climate change and most of all – its implications.

Glenn Vowles, Green Campaigner, Knowle.

“All we are doing is blaming someone else for the problems we are creating. I would like you all to get your houses in order before you blame others, you will nip down to the shops in the car because it is quicker, you will turn your heating up if it gets a little colder, buy convenient food and then add to the rubbish or recycle bin.
Yes we do have a problem, but we do not have a solution. Experts give us their opinions, most of these opinions can be argued for and against, by some other expert. We will continue debarting this for many years and then it will be announced that what we thought before was incorrect, and the debate will continue. I do not have the answer, and i don't think any one has. but here is a thought. Gods answer to get rid of all the bad people on this land, was to flood it, and he promised he would never do it again, but maybe he is this time trying to be more selective”

“Tim: green campaigners are expressing an opinion, just like you. No-one's "imposing" or "preaching".
It's called "free speech". In a "free speech" society even mindless ranters are allowed their say.”

“'Human-caused'? Of course it is. 'Simon' and the leader of the Green Warriors, General Glenn Vowles says so. So it IS true, and the other proles with perfectly valid scientific theories are all wrong. So there. 'We have our fingers in our ears and we're not listening and we have our eyes shut so we can't see you lalalalalalalalala............'

Your responses back up everything I have said about you green warriors and your cloak of self-righteousness.

    Stop preaching to the uninterested.”

“Yeah Tim, it's all a myth, the sea levels won't rise and millions of people won't lose their homes. The polar regions wont thaw out and Polar bears won't become extinct. We in Britain won't experience harsh winters and wet summers with areas flooded more often than not...

There IS an endless supply of oil and waste can be blasted out into space..Third world countries - F... 'em!

Let's keep on ruining the planet - ignorance is bliss!!”

“What personal gain do you 'Green Warriors' have to gain form denying the truth from the scientists that dispute your THEORIES? (Apart from ripping us off with 'Green taxes that is). Like I said, you want to be Green, fine, but don't inflict YOUR lifestyle choice and you condescending holier-than-thou attitude on the rest of us.”

“Tim - you reponses kind of back up your quotes of my previous post.

It's A VERY interesting standpoint you have there.. People thought the earth was flat, that evolution can not be proven and that "tv would never last".. History is repeating itself.

Accelerated Climate change is a proven REALITY, better start getting used to it and try and do something to help future generations, if not the planet as it stands now...

Can you answer the following question:

"what personal gain do they (or, you) hope to achieve by denying the truth? "”

“"Eddie basically has no cause to dispute the truth of climate change..

Anyone who denies climate change is basically just contradicting those who do care about the earth - for the sake of it."

And a more PERFECT example of the condescending attitude of the 'Green Warriors' I couldn't have made up myself.

You want to be green? Fine Don't inflict YOUR lifestyle choice on the rest of us.”

“Climate change has happened throughout the earth's life. I don't think anybody had Range Rovers in the ice age.

It is now a religion for hippies to try to force their opinions and lifestyle on us, to liberate more of our loot through taxes and 'Legends-in-their-own-lunch-hour' like Glenn Vowles to shout "Hey, listen to me. I'm right and you're all wrong" and wrap themselves up in their shroud of self-righteousness.

Funny how the scientists that OPPOSE their views are always shouted down.

Can it Glenn, and the rest of yor commune - We're sick of hearing you bleat.”
