More streetlights to be switched off to save money
STREETLIGHTS could be switched off in the early hours in Downend.
The area is the latest to be earmarked for the cost-saving measure by South Gloucestershire Council as it looks to cut some of its annual £1.25 million lighting bill.
Under the plan, currently out for consultation, lights on most residential streets would be switched off between midnight and 4.15am during the months of GMT and 1.15am and 5.15am during British summer time.
Main roads such as North Street, Badminton Road, Bromley Heath Road, Westerleigh Road, Peache Road, Cleeve Hill and Overndale road would not be affected.

“I do not think that switching of streetlights is actually a good idea. Of course I can't deny that saving money is a great goal, but maybe our government should better figure out some sort of a better way out, without involving our already poor and tired people? First they make taxes go higher, now they are wanting to turn of the streetlights....alright, what should be expect next then? I am sure there will be a lot of people against it. It is time to stop one of those useless financing which is going to save a bunch of money. Thank you for the post
