Bristol barber celebrates 20th anniversary

Monday, October 05, 2009, 07:00

Salvatore Parrinello was only 19 when he opened his barber shop in Stoke Bishop.

Now Mr Parinello, 39, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

He opened the shop in Druid Hill in 1989, having spent a year training at college and working for his brother-in-law.

When Salvatore's opened, Mr Parinello was one of the youngest barbers in the city.

He said: "It was tough at the start, trying to build up a business, but now we are OK.

"We haven't been hit by the recession; I think this business is recession-proof, a bit like undertakers. People still need to get their hair cut."

Mr Parinello, who is married with three young children, employs one member of staff – 18-year-old Davide Lattuca – who he has trained since the age of 13.
