In the spotlight: Stockwood Sharks
Stockwood Sharks were formed five years ago by players and supporters of Bristol Telephones Area Rugby Club.
The club started with just one junior team but through the hard work and dedication of the members, now have an impressive youth section.
The South Bristol club have more than 80 children on the books and run teams at under-sevens, eights, nines and 10s as well as Under-13 and Colts sides that should produce the next generation of senior players at the club.
One of the secrets of the club's success at junior level is attributed to its careful selection of the name Stockwood Sharks.
Youth chairman Tony 'Mini' Morris explained: "We are surrounded by well-established rugby clubs with large youth sections – Old Reds, Keynsham, Quins and Bernadette's to name a few – so we wanted to give our junior section a name that would directly link us to our community.
"Hence the name Stockwood Sharks.
"Our aim is to make rugby accessible to boys and girls regardless of shape, size, or ability. All our coaches are qualified and we are working towards the RFU 'Seal of Approval' accreditation."
Morris also paid tribute to the club's sponsors – Kestrel Maintenance and Conservatories, Avon Air, CJ Communications and Stonegrate 70 – whose financial support is crucial to the Sharks' survival. To join the Sharks, call Morris on 07846 317610.
