Bristol pupils' European project

Friday, November 20, 2009, 07:00

Children at Summerhill Infant School in St George are taking part in a project to find out more about European festivals and celebrations.

They will learn about how festivals common to the UK, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Holland are marked in each country and about activities that are unique to a single country, such as our St George's Day or Bonfire Night.

Two teachers at Summerhill, Rachael Stephens and Susan Hudd, are leading the UK part of the two-year British council project, which is entitled Celebrating Together.

It was launched in January, when representatives met in Spain. This month sees the first meeting, with 17 teachers from schools in the other five countries visiting Bristol. The next will be in Poland in March.

Each class at the school in Clouds Hill Road has found out about the languages, culture and traditions of one of the countries and pupils were due to present their findings to the visitors at an assembly today.
