A Redfield man who admitted having class C drug ketamine in his possession was sentenced to a 12-month community order.

Bristol Magistrates' Court heard how police officers discovered Robin Taylor in a Ford transit van in Bridge Street, with white powder around his nostrils on September 19.

The 35-year-old, of Cooperage Road, pleaded guilty to having in his possession 0.45g of ketamine.

Taylor was searched by police and the sealed bag of white powder was discovered in his jacket pocket.

He told police he had bought the drugs for £10 from a nightclub and that it was for his own personal use.

Taylor has one conviction for drug offences from 2002.

The court heard how until last month, Taylor had his own cleaning contracting business, but due to the financial downturn, work had dried up.

He was given a 12-month community order, and a 40-hour unpaid work requirement. He was also ordered to pay £50 in costs.
