Volunteers to build new Scout climbing frame in Stapleton
The giant wooden climbing frame outside the hut belonging to Bristol 197th (1st Stapleton) in a field off Stonechat Gardens was set alight in June.
The hut caters for around 40 Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, all of whom were left devastated by the attack.
The play structure, which was made on stilts using telegraph poles, had only been completed six months before it was set alight. Sadly no one was ever caught in connection with the matter.
But on Saturday a working party of parents, Scouts, group leaders and community volunteers are starting at 9am to get as much play equipment built as they can in a day.
They hope to get four separate pieces built.
The group of around 20 will be working under the guidance of Mark Hughes who works for Bigwood Play Frames in Bath.
Afterwards there will be a barbecue to say thank you to all those who offered their time and hard work to get the project off the ground.
Beaver leader Annabel Bennett, 37, who discovered the blaze, said: "There has been a really great response since it happened. We are determined to be defiant about what was a pointless attack.
"We have had donations of wood for the building and meat for the barbecue.
"My husband Andy who is a Scout leader did a sponsored triathlon and Cub leader Emma Scott did a sponsored bike ride. Both of them raised around £200 each.
"On Saturday we are hoping to get four new pieces of climbing equipment built for the children to enjoy.
"They were all devastated when it was burnt down and are all very excited that it is going to be replaced.
"Some of them were even involved in coming up with ideas of what should be built."
