Nine stabbed on Bristol cycle path: Man appears in court

A man appeared at Bristol Crown Court via video link from HMP Hewell charged with stabbing nine people and attempting to stab two police officers in Bristol.

Stanley Bailey, 54, of Goulter Street, Barton Hill, is charged with nine counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of attempted unlawful wounding with intent to cause GBH.

He also faces a single charge of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a red Swiss Army knife.

Bailey is alleged to have stabbed seven members of the public and two police community support officers on the Bristol to Bath cycle track at Lawrence Hill.

Those he is accused of wounding are Justin Rae, Edward Hines-Lindo, Alan Cook, Peter Heffernan, Kade Raji Urankan, Peter Aldrich, Dave Bane, Hugh Mclaren and George Baxandall.

The two police officers he is accused of attempting to wound are PCs Benjamin Blackmore and Paul Newall.

Bailey was remanded in custody to appear at the court on November 23 for a plea and case management hearing.
