Tytherington Rocks target Tony Bennett
With James Hicks poised for a switch to Toolstation League side Hallen, Rocks boss Barry Granger has been quick to identify a replacement. He hopes 34-year-old Bennett, who quit Cadbury Heath recently after building up match fitness with their reserves, will inject some potency into his goal-shy team.
While Bennett is unlikely to be available in time for tomorrow's trip to Wootton Bassett Town, one man poised for a full debut is former AXA midfielder Nick Jones, who made a second-half bow for Rocks at right-back during last weekend's 1-0 home defeat by Easington Sports.
Dean Kingman has also returned to the club after work commitments took precedence for the defender.
Of Bennett's pending arrival Granger said: "Tony has bags of experience playing local semi-pro football and he can do a great job for us at our level."
New Winterbourne United manager Nick Tanner continues to weigh-up his squad, having already added former Brimsham Green goalkeeper Graham Court, and Almondsbury Town defender Kirk Waldron to the ranks.
Tanner, who confirmed this week that former Liverpool star Bruce Grobbelaar will be available to play in 'Bourne's GFA Trophy match with Patchway Town in a fortnight's time, was encouraged by his side's display in the 2-0 defeat by Lydney Town last Saturday and is hoping the goals will soon flow, starting with tomorrow's home clash against second-placed Slimbridge.
"Two of our 18-year-old midfielders, George Hemmings and Chris Isles, were outstanding," said Tanner, who adds Nick Waters and Tristan Day to his squad. Midfielder Tom Buxton-Blythe, meanwhile, has left for Hanham Athletic.
Premier Division title chasers Almondsbury Town, fresh from a superb 5-2 midweek FA Vase second-round victory at Christchurch, have released right-back Dave Biggs, who has returned to Welsh football with Taffs Well.
Midfielder Brad Andrews returns from suspension for tomorrow's match at mid-table Marlow, while left-back Danny Haines is nearing a comeback from injury.
