St Bedes claim schools title with a winning medal-haul

Saturday, November 28, 2009, 07:00

With a total of four medals St Bedes emerged the top school at the Bristol Schools' Cross Country Championships.

The Catholic College in Lawrence Weston claimed one team gold, two silvers and a bronze to finish one ahead of Cotham School, St Mary Redcliffe and Redland Green School.

It was the schools' junior boys who took centre stage with David McMillan leading by example with overall victory as he atoned for an unfortunate fall in the 2008 event. The other winning team members were Conor Matthews, Rowan Nevin and Wesley Long.

Among Cotham School's three medals were two golds for the inter girls' and boys' squads of Saskia Manson, Safya Saleem, Emily Harris, Emily Sterne, Freddie Barton, James Cooley, James Barclay and Django Reeves respectively.

Individually Clifton College's athletes were the most successful with five medals, including golds for Charlotte Banks (minor girls) and Caspian James (senior boys).
