Somerset recruit Compton excited to pair up with Trescothick
Compton has moved to Taunton from Middlesex to fill the gap left at the top of the order by Justin Langer's retirement.
Compton will meet his new team-mates for the first time next week when Somerset CCC start winter training.
"The prospect of batting at the other end to Marcus Trescothick is very exciting," he said.
"Marcus Trescothick plays his cricket in a very attractive way and he makes it look simple. He is obviously an incredibly talented player in the way that he hits the ball and from that point of view it is exciting for me because that is the way that I played my one-day cricket this year."
While Marcus Trescothick's England career is in the past, 26-year-old Compton, still hopes to wear the three lions at senior level one day, having played for the Under-19s and A-team.
"Ambition is the reason why we play the game," he said. "To win trophies and to play for England is my ambition.
"I think that people mature at different times, so I don't think that my England opportunity has gone."
As part of the Middlesex team that won the 2008 Twenty20 Cup, Compton should have played in the inaugural Champions League a year ago but a terrorist attack in Mumbai forced the cancellation of the competition.
"Over the last couple of years cricket has moved forward dramatically from an entertainment point of view," he said.
"I grew up with my grandfather (England legend Denis) as a role model and Test cricket has always been a benchmark for me and remains that way.
"But with the game evolving and with the Champions League, it's exciting."
Meanwhile, Somerset CCC have agreed a one-year extension to their sponsorship deal with car insurance firm eCar.
The logo of the Bristol-based company will appear on the county's shirts.
