Gidman to stay with Glos

Gidman,27, had all but agreed a move to Edgbaston when incoming director of cricket John Bracewell persuaded him to change his mind. And Gloucestershire's vice-captain says he is ready to commit to a long-term deal.
“There are still one or two issues to resolve and phone calls to make, but I'm pretty confident I'll have new deal tied up next week,” he said.
“I've said throughout the process that the chance to work with John Bracewell again would have a massive bearing on my decision and, after sitting down with him, I'm convinced he's the best man to help take my game to the next level.
“I'm still young enough to think again in maybe three or four years' time, so I'm very enthusiastic about the future.”
Currently coaching the New Zealand national side, Bracewell officially takes up his new post in April next year. His return to Bristol was announced earlier this month and prompted Gidman's U-turn.
Gidman, who also discussed a possible deal with Surrey, admitted he was close to joining Warwickshire after twice meeting with the club's director of cricket Ashley Giles.
“At one stage, I was almost certain I would be leaving. It was a very close call,” he said.
“Unfortunately, this club had gone very stale over the last four or five years, so I needed to know John's plans.
“He told me he's not prepared to just let things drift, and I know he's not that sort of guy, so I've re-aligned my priorities as to where I'm going.”
Meanwhile, Gidman is doubtful for Gloucestershire's Championship contest against Essex, which begins in Chelmsford on Wednesday.
He underwent a scan after sustaining an ankle injury in the four-day game against Middlesex and could be sidelined for some time.
