Junior rugby: In the spotlight – Old Bristolians RFC.

OLD Bristolians RFC started their mini and junior section just five years ago.

Initially, they only had seven boys turn up and they didn't play a single game that season.

But the following season, the club mounted a recruitment drive and set about persuading former players to return to the club with their children. By the end of that campaign, they were running three successful age groups.

Since then, the club's youth and mini section has moved from strength to strength and the club now has over 150 players who wear the club colours every Sunday morning.

Teams range from Under-14s down to the 'tumble tots', who are as young as five years-old.

Bristolians have taken teams on tour to Newcastle and Sale and youngsters have met World Cup heroes Jonny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson and French star Sebastian Chabal.

Among the coaches are former Bristol captain Andy Dun, club president Rich Berry and Charlie Thompson, while the Under-11s are Somerset champions.
