Elliott finally back in the groove for Bristol City
An overnight sensation following his transfer from Millwall to Ashton Gate in the summer of 2007, the midfielder established himself as a firm favourite with supporters and played a major part in helping City reach the play-offs.
The 25-year-old Londoner's progress has since been hampered by the foot and knee injuries which interrupted his pre-season preparations and then caused him to miss the start of the Robins' Championship campaign.
But Elliott showed in the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Ashton Gate last weekend that he is now getting close to recapturing his very best form.
Not only did City's midfield powerhouse turn in a performance full of aggression and energy, he also scored one of the most spectacular goals seen at Ashton Gate for many months as the Robins twice came from behind to draw 2-2.
"I'm happy to be back in the team and I'm happy with my game," said Elliott, who only returned to manager Gary Johnson's starting line-up at Wolves on September 27.
"It's always difficult when you have to come back from an injury and play catch-up and it took me a long time.
"When you have a game like mine, you need a lot of games to get back to peak physical condition.
"I've been back in the team for a while now and I feel my game is coming back."
Elliott scored six goals from the centre of midfield last term and believes there are more to come now that he has opened his account for this season.
"Why shouldn't I score more?" he asked. "There are no rules about who scores the goals and I'm always looking to get forward and shoot.
"Scoring that goal against Forest was sweet. I knew it was going in as soon as I caught it."
Encouraged to let fly whenever possible by City boss Johnson, Elliott revealed the part played by the manager in his wonder goal against Forest.
"The gaffer had a right go at me for not shooting a few moments earlier," said Elliott. "I tried to play Gavin Williams in instead of having a shot and he was right to shout at me.
"He was screaming at me the next time I got the ball on the edge of the box and, fortunately, I listened to him and had a go."
Bristol City goalkeeper Chris Weale's loan move to Rotherham United has fallen through.
Mark Robins, boss of the League Two side, wanted Weale as emergency cover for injured keeper Andy Warrington, who will be out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.
But Weale will be staying put at Ashton Gate as Bristol City would have been unable to recall him if they suffered an injury to one of their other keepers.
