Blackwell quits Somerset for Durham to revive his England chances

The 30-year-old, who captain Justin Langer did not select for several one-day games last season, has opted to go despite two years remaining on his contract.
Blackwell is optimistic he can earn an England recall after a fresh start with a three-year deal at the new County Champions, Durham.
Somerset could have refused to release him but, after nine years' service, felt to do so would be unfair.
The former skipper was also the target of interest from his former club Derbyshire, as well as Hampshire and Lancashire.
Blackwell was Somerset's third highest run-scorer in 2008 with 1006 Championship runs at an average of 43.73. His total was just 77 behind Langer's from two fewer innings.
His runs from number six in the order will be partially covered by the promotion of Pete Trego and wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter, who have been effective batsmen at seven and eight respectively.
The left-arm spinner's recent bowling return for Somerset has been disappointing. This year he took 21 wickets at 45.66 apiece.
But whether the combined efforts of Omari Banks, Michael Munday, Arul Suppiah and Wes Durston can replace him only time will tell.
A new signing has not been ruled out but Somerset already have a large squad and will only want to recruit if they can significantly improve on what they have already got.
Blackwell will be sorely missed by large sections of the club's membership. He is hugely popular at Taunton and the player insisted he was torn over whether to go or stay.
He said: "I joined Somerset back in 2000 and I have spent nine very enjoyable seasons here. During this time I achieved many great career goals, both personally and also as part of a great team,
winning three trophies with the team and making my debut for England being amongst the highlights.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Somerset supporters who I will sorely miss.
"Since joining the club they have all given me fantastic support, and a great reception on and off the field.
"Making this cricketing decision has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I hope I am able to utilise my move to Durham County Cricket Club so I am able to progress in all formats of the game and push for future England recognition."
Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose thanked Blackwell for his nine years at Taunton.
"Ian has been a wonderful player for Somerset County Cricket Club," he said. "During his time here he has been hugely popular with the supporters and has been a great entertainer.
"He has also gone on to win England recognition, with 34 one-day international appearances and one Test cap.
"His last international appearance was back in 2006, after which he was out of the game for most of the season with a shoulder injury. But as a 30-year-old player he still has time to recapture his England form and place, and we hope that a change of scene will help with this."
