Bristol woman smuggled drugs in her bra
Amber Truman tried to get the drugs past guards as she visited her cousin.
But 20-year-old Truman, whose is expecting a baby in July, was caught when a prison dog alerted guards.
When she appeared at Stafford Crown Court yesterday she was told she had avoided being sent to jail "by the skin of her teeth".
Recorder John Harvey said: "You are only 20 years of age and were involved with a substantial quantity of a class A drug. You said you thought you were taking cannabis into prison. You are someone without any previous convictions and quite a lot of things are going for your."
She was given a 12-month jail sentence suspended for two years. The judge imposed a three-month curfew which means she must stay at home from 9pm to 8am each day.
He said: "You have escaped an immediate term of custody literally by the skin of your teeth. I make it clear that this is a wholly exceptional course for someone who takes drugs into prison."
Truman of The Rosary, Hillfields, Speedwell, admitted possessing heroin with intent to supply while visiting Thomas Bond, in November 2007.
Prosecuting Heath Westerman said: "A drugs dog indicated she may be in possession of drugs. She volunteered she had cannabis hidden in her bra. It was found to be 12 grammes of 46 per cent pure heroin, worth £4,920 in prison."
She said she was being paid £100 to smuggle the drugs.
Mr Mark Sheppard, defending, said: "She was placed under pressure and unfortunately agreed to do it.
"It is a traumatic time for her and she has been given a great deal of support to turn her life around. You must take into account her naivety."
