Another slap in the face for bus users
I CAN hardly believe the further erosion of service when the proposed changes to the 48/49 come into effect on May 10.
The proposal is to both end and start these services at stop Hg in Rupert Street instead of CU and Quay Street (for the start of the outward journey) at present. Excuse me, but when did the buses ever actually stop at CU? In my experience, only once on the first day of those particular changes.
The proposal to start the return journey from Hg as well virtually means the end of a city centre service. I timed my walk from Hg to the part of the Centre where I needed to be and it took 10 minutes taking into account busy crossings.
First is constantly upping its fares and reducing its services. As far as these particular services are concerned, why doesn't First be honest and simply say that many people in Bristol East and beyond the city centre are no longer directly served? By any stretch of the imagination, Rupert Street in Lewins Mead is not the city centre. To actually ride to the centre you have to change at the Horsefair.
Give us back the city centre stops we used to have on Broad Quay. There are no obvious improvements in timetabling by cutting these out.
The proposed changes across the city and the close of the Bus Shop on the centre are a further slap in the face for those who have to rely on the quite often awful and overpriced service operated by this company.
Readers must be sick to death of reading letters like this. When, oh when, will something be done about it?
Ann Godfrey, Eastville.
