THERE were some fantastic personal best performances at the final British Milers' Club meeting at the Exeter Arena on Tuesday.

It was cool once the sun went down, but it was a windless night and the Bristol & West AC pair of Mike Wilsmore and Hobie Martin took full advantage in the men's 1,500 metres A race.

Wilsmore won in 3:51.7 to clip 1.9 seconds off his previous best, set on the same track in April, but Martin's improvement was even more impressive, the 15-year-old not only smashed his PB, but also broke four minutes for the first time to finish in sixth place.

In the women's 1,500m A race, 14-year-old Miranda Sadler ran superbly to finish fourth in 4:47.4 to clip 3.4 seconds off her best, set at Cheltenham in July.

● Bristol & West AC have men's and women's teams in London today for the British Athletics League 10 in 100 Cup final.

Team manager Cy Knibb said: "Availability is always a problem so late in the season, but everyone recognises the importance of our return to national competition and the club should do well."

Men's Cup: Bristol & West, Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde, Crawley, Luton, Swansea, Tamworth, TVH, Woking.

Women's Plate: Bristol & West, Bexley, Brighton & Hove City, Colchester Harriers, Crawley, Swindon Harriers, Tamworth. Telford.

● There was rough luck for Westbury Harriers' Gareth Howard as his bid to complete the 100-mile Ultra-Tour du Mont Blanc was wrecked by the weather.

Torrential rain, which led to mud slides, plus near-zero visibility meant that the event organisers had to cancel the race after just three hours of running.

Fortunately, Howard emerged unscathed and may have another go next year.

● Hannah Alderson may have missed her 1,500m PB by just 0.14secs in the final British Milers' Club Grand Prix race at Cardiff last weekend, but she has enjoyed her most consistent season.

The 18-year-old, from Yate, has now run quicker than her 2009 PB on five occasions this summer, which underlines her improvement since joining coach Keith Brackstone's group.

● Bristol & West's Young brothers scored a one-two in the Baltonsborough five-mile road race.

Older brother Nathan came first in a time of 27mins 50secs, with Kieran almost a minute behind in second (28:47).

Southville RC's Julian Richards was sixth (30:51) and Thornbury RC's Trinity Booth was third woman (33:50).

● Clevedon AC's Neil Hatherall was 16th in the Oke Croak fell race, covering the 10.4 miles/2000ft challenge across Dartmoor in 1hr 37mins 03secs.

● Westbury Harrier Debbie Marsden is running the Alderney 10k road race in the Channel Islands today.

Marsden recently had to take two weeks' rest to recover from a virus.

● Westbury Harrier Matt Ellis' recent good form paid dividends on Tuesday with a handsome victory in the AXA 5.5-mile road race.

Ellis clocked a time of 28mins 36secs, one of the quickest times recorded on the course that starts and finishes at the AXA sports ground at Cribbs Causeway.

● The final race in the Yeovil Town summer 5k road series takes place on Wednesday (7.30pm).
